Minister Suella Braverman is the first ever to take maternity leaveand not lose her ministerial role

The Queen has approved the below ministerial appointments following the Royal Assent of the Ministerial and other Maternity Allowances Act 2021.

  • Rt Hon Suella Braverman QC MP to be designated as a Minister on Leave (Attorney General)
  • Rt Hon Michael Ellis QC MP to be Attorney General
  • Lucy Frazer QC MP to be Solicitor General

Lucy Frazer will also be sworn into the Privy Council.

This groundbreaking change will allow Suella Braverman to take maternity leave whilst not losing her ministerial role, a great change for the times and ensuring that women not only continue to have a voice at the highest echelons of Parliament and Government but that politics remains accessible to all, whether you are pregnant, have children or are young single and climbing up the ladder but starting to have family plans in mind.

Suella has made history in the role becoming the first ever ‘Minister on leave’ and we wish her all the best!
